Green Deal benefits from £100m cash injection

Energy efficiency is a massive problem for many homes in the UK and homeowners are also struggling to pay for measures to reduce heat loss and save money. But now an extra £100 million has been made available, so homeowners can make their properties warmer and control their expensive energy bills.

This is all thanks to the Government’s Green Deal Scheme, which targets those with expensive bills and little insulation. The extra finance will be available from the end of November and is part of the new Green Deal Home Improvement Fund.

More details on this extra finance will be provided next month, but it’s sure to point to good things in the future for homeowners around the country.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey said: “More money means more people can live in warmer, greener homes sooner. Green Deal Home Improvement Fund vouchers went like hot cakes earlier in the year and now even more people can cut their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.”

The scheme has also been backed by the Energy and Climate Change Minister Amber Rudd, who said: “We’ve already taken £50 off energy bills but we know that the best way for households to cut their bills is to use less energy.

“Over three quarters of a million homes have already had energy saving improvements installed as a result of the Energy Company Obligation and Green Deal schemes and it makes sense to help even more families install measures so that they see the benefits of lower bills and a warmer home for years to come.”

The extra £100 million that’s funded to the Green Deal is a top up to the current £450 million already in the kitty. This will be available over a three-year period and helps homeowners enjoy a more energy efficient property.

The Green Deal was launched only a couple of years ago and effectively serves as a loan for those wanting to reduce bills. Measures include loft insulation, wall cavity insulation, double glazing and even a replacement boiler.
